Prior to the decision
on the location of the NC/SC state line, the area that is now York
County was part of old Tryon County, NC; before 1769, many deeds and
grants were made in Mecklenburg Co. NC . It is possible that some even
earlier deeds may be found in Anson County, NC records. Many residents
also have ties to the neighboring area of old Lincoln County, now
Lincoln, Cleveland, and Gaston Counties. The old deeds for Anson,
Lincoln, and Mecklenburg Counties in NC are now online.
